Big Heart, Little Pup

I’ve given you the ins and outs on my experience bringing Luci home, adjusting to home life, and what to expect with a rescue dog who has a past you’ll never know about. Today I’m going to share why Luci is such a great little addition to our family and why I love her sooooo much.

I’m very lucky that my mom is so involved with Luci and helping take care of her. Each morning, my mom takes Luci on 5km walks in the forest, which is a win-win. Luci of course loves being outdoors, and my mom likes having something hold her accountable to go every day and getting the exercise. Luci is usually quite pooped by the time she comes home and will relax on the couch until I walk her later in the afternoon, and my mom’s happy that she can get her steps in before 9am.

Luci’s a great snuggler. On the couch we have a towel laid out so she doesn’t get dog hair everywhere, but sometimes if I’m watching a movie, I’ll call her over and we’ll have a little cuddle session. Who doesn’t love a good cuddle buddy? She looks so peaceful when she sleeps, until she’s dreaming… then she’ll kick her little feet, have soft muffled barks, and look like she’s trying to run. I’m always curious what she’s dreaming about.

It’s nice having a companion. I’m a bit of a baby, but I’m lucky I’m never truly home alone because Luci is always there with me. I know she would scare off any potential intruders with her ferocious bark, and I’m hopeful the bad guys wouldn’t have a chance to see how little she is before they ran away.

She’s a stress reliever. If I’m ever stressed from work or life, she always manages to calm me down without her even knowing it. Petting and snuggling up with her is very relaxing and helps me calm down. It’s a nice distraction when I need it.

She is very sweet. Despite my last post where I mentioned her showing aggressive behaviour at times, she is very very gentle, sweet, and kind. All she wants are a few pets and maybe a belly rub. And then she’ll inch closer so you continue giving her more love and pets.

Finally, she makes me happy. She brings me so much joy when I walk in the front door and she’s there, happy to see me. She usually sits and throws her two front paws up to rest against my legs and I’ll squat down and give her some love. Every moment like that makes me so thankful that I was able to save Luci and bring her home, and every day she lets me know how grateful she is to be here with us. My life wouldn’t be the same without her.

How can you say no to that cute little face?!
